Shall we begin?

Phonics | Blending Letters Sounds

Blending Letters Sounds

Let’s start by Blending Sounds

Blending sounds is like mixing the sounds of letters to make words. Like mixing colours to create new ones, we’ll mix sounds to make words.

Examples:

Let’s start with the sound /v/ and the word “an.”

When we blend them, we get a “van.” Can you say “van” to me? Good.

Now, let’s try the sound /c/ and the word “an.” When we blend them, we get “can.” Try saying “can.”

Lastly, let’s use the sound /c/ and the word “at.” When we blend them, we get “cat.” Say “cat” out loud. Excellent!

Practice Time:

Phonics

Now it’s your turn to practice blending sounds! I’ll say the sounds, and you try to blend them into words.

Sound /b/ and word “at” = ?

Sound /d/ and word “og” = ?

Sound /m/ and word “op” = ?

Great job, everyone! You’ve learned how to blend sounds to make words. This will help you become even better at reading. Keep practising by reading books and blending sounds whenever you see new words. Remember, the more you practice, the better you’ll get!

Assignment

I want you to blend the following sounds:

Sound /p/ and word “ig” = ?

Sound /t/ and word “en” = ?

Sound /f/ and word “ish” = ?

We have come to the end of today’s class. Hope you enjoyed the class.

In our next class, we will be talking in detail about Phonics III
