People learn about their responsibilities through social studies.  The following are the importance of social studies.

1. Social studies help explain the world in which we live.
2. To understand people and societies.
3. To understand change and how the society we live in came to be.
4. To understand the importance of history in our own lives.
5. To understand how history contributes to moral understanding.
6. It educates the people.
7. It helps the people to understand the government.
