Impact of substance abuse
Some drugs are categorized as hard drugs because of how harmful they are. Commonly abused hard drugs are:
- Cannabis also known as hemp, igbo, ganja, stone
- Cocaine
- Heroine
- Ecstasy
Other drugs which are addictive and have harmful effects on health, but which still allow the users to function are called recreational drugs. These include:
- Alcohol also known as ogogoro
- Tobacco also known as taba
- Prescription drugs such as valium and codeine.

- Mental disorder
- Fatigue
- Serious diseases such as lung disease
- Poor work brain
- Addiction
- Violence
- Death
Socio-economic impact of using drugs
- Poor school performance
- Disruption in relationship with families and others.
- School dropout
- Financial problem
- Unkept personality
- Inability to focus
- Under development of a community
- Poverty
