Basic Skills In Ball Games – Kicking and stopping
Ball games are like exciting adventures on the field or court. To become a skilled player, you need to learn the basics, and that starts with kicking and stopping the ball.
Kicking the Ball
The Stance: Stand with your non-kicking foot slightly in front of your kicking foot. This helps you balance.
Eye on the Ball: Keep your eyes on the ball at all times. It’s your best friend on the field.
Plant Foot: Your non-kicking foot is like an anchor. Plant it firmly beside the ball.
Kicking Leg: Swing your kicking leg backward to gather power and then forward to kick the ball. Your toes should be pointed down, and your ankle should be locked.
Contact: Strike the ball with the side of your foot, near the shoelaces. This gives you more control.
Follow Through: After kicking, let your leg follow through. It’s like showing the way for the ball.
Stopping the Ball
Ready Position: Stand with your knees slightly bent and your feet shoulder-width apart.
Hands Ready: Keep your hands in front of you and ready to catch or block the ball.
Eye on the Ball: Always watch the ball as it comes toward you. This helps you react quickly.
Catching: Use your hands to catch the ball. Bring your hands together to form a “W” shape with your thumbs and fingers.
Blocking: If the ball is too fast to catch, use your body to block it. Keep your body between the ball and the goal or basket.
Stay Low: When stopping the ball, bend your knees and get low. It makes it easier to control the ball.
Practice, Practice, Practice:
The more you practice kicking and stopping the ball, the better you’ll become. So, get out there and have fun practicing with your friends!
