Introduction to Tie-Die
Tie-dye is a resist-dyeing technique of textile which consist of folding, twisting, pleating, stitching, crumpling or binding fabric with a string on rubber band followed by application of dye. In modern times, tie-dye can be used to create a wide variety of designs on textile, customize expensive t-shirts they also turn faded clothes into the new exciting design.
Materials used for tie-die
- Dye and other relevant chemicals
- White cotton fabric or material
- Strings, ropes, raffia, rubber bands
- Rubber gloves
- Plastic bath(dye bath)
- Plastic bag
- Hot water
- Measuring set(cup, spoon, bowl)
- Safety glass
- Masks
Dyeing techniques and steps
- By folding a piece of fabric in vertical pleats, a resultant product will be horizontal stripes.
- Stitch a loose basting stitch in any desired shape, then pull the threads tight for a varied result of tie-dye.
- Grab the fabric or cloth where you want the centre to be and pull until you have achieved a long tube of the garment. Then tie it at intervals as desired with rope, raffia, string or rubber along with the fabric or cloth.
