Sound is simply something that we can hear. It can come in different forms of high or low. Sound can be produced through friction. Speech and animal renditions are also sources of sound.

Uses of sound
  • Identification of a brand object, animal, person.
  • It can be used for alerting impending danger.
  • Sound is used to interpret different forms of emotional feelings and temperament.
  • It can also be adapted into an organized sequence to make music.
  • Sound was and is still used for rituals.
  • Sound is used for commercials and entertainment.

Musical Instruments

A musical instrument is an object created or adapted to make musical sounds. It is by its ability to produce a sound that qualifies it to be musical instruments. The history of musical instrument dates to the beginning of human culture as many early instruments were made from animal skins, bone, wood and other non-durable materials

Symbolic functions of musical instruments
  • For dancing.
  • For rituals.
  • For religious purposes.
  • For the dissemination of messages.
  • For communication.
  • For accompanying of messages.
  • For festivals and ceremonies.
  • For the interaction of the player to create sound.
  • In the composition of a band.
  • For theatre/ drama production.
  • For play or dance rehearsals.
  • For praises and worship in church.
