  1. Fight against colonialism: Nigeria over the years has supported some states in Africa to gain independence. For example  independence of Zimbabwe in 1980.
  2. Quest for peace in Africa: Nigeria has helped promote Peace in Africa. in Liberia and Sierra-Leone for example, Nigeria assisted in restoring peace in these countries.
  3. Economic development: with the help of ECOWAS, Nigeria support smaller economies in Africa.
  4. Voice of Africa: Nigeria is a voice for Africa. Nigeria speaks passionately about issues that affect the African continent in international organizations such as the United Nations, Commonwealth, African Union and so on with a mind to seek solutions to these crucial issues.
  5. Military aid: Nigeria has strong military personnel and has over the years assisted countries in need of military assistance in Africa.

Ways Nigeria maintains friendly relations with African states

  1. Nigeria gives grants and aids to countries in need to support them in the development of their economies.
  2. Nigeria initiates peaceful means of settling issues among the African States. For example, Nigeria helped to put an end to the war in Liberia.
  3. Nigeria actively participates in the African Union, ECOWAS, etc where other members of Africa also attend.
  4. Nigeria promotes the cultural heritage of Africa and engages in cultural exchange with some African countries.
  5. Nigeria supported liberation movements in Africa such as MPLA, SWAPO, ANC.etc
