In today’s Home Economics class, We will be learning about Main Meals and Snacks. We hope you enjoy the class!
CONTENT:
A meal is the food prepared and eaten usually at a specific time e. g breakfast: morning meal, lunch: afternoon meal and dinner: evening meal. e.g rice, beans, pounded yam, melon soup etc.
Snacks, on the other hand, is a light meal. For example; chin-chin, puff-puff, peanut, toasted bread, pancake, potatoes chip, soya, meat pie. Etc
Drinks in Nigeria are zobo, Kunu, Chapman, fruit juice etc.
Soft drinks – coke, fantastic, Pepsi, teem, Mirinda etc.
Differences
Snacks | Main meals |
they are light | They are heavy |
they may not be balanced | Usually well balanced as all nutrients are present |
It can be eaten anywhere whether standing, walking or sitting | It requires settling down or sitting |
They can stay longer after preparation | Main meals are prepared and consumed almost immediately after preparation |
Duties of food sellers/ providers for the public
Food sellers are people who prepare, cook and sell food to the public. Their duties include:
- Undertake medical examination at any approved medical centre
- Buying good and healthy foodstuff to prepare the meal
- Cover hair
- Use clean plates and cutlery for serving
- Handle customers complains and queries
- redress daily sales report
