Water Cycle and Rain Formation

Welcome to class.

WATER CYCLE AND RAIN FORMATION

INTRODUCTION

At the end of the class, students must be able to explain how rain is formed and what water cycle means.

CONTENT

DEFINITION OF WATER

  • Water is colorless.
  • Water is Transparent,
  • Water is also an odorless liquid
  • Water forms the sea, lakes, rivers, and rain.
  • Water is also the fluid all living things survive on.

WATER CYCLE

The water cycle can be defined in many ways and some are stated below:

  • The water cycle describes the continuous movement of water on, above and below the surface of the Earth.
  • Water cycle involves the continuous circulation of water in the Earth atmosphere.
  • The water cycle is the continuous journey water takes from the sea, to the sky, to the land and back to the sea.

IMPORTANCE OF WATER CYCLE

  • The movement of water around our planet is vital to life as it supports plants and animals.
  • It regains the water lost from the water bodies.
  • It ensures the distribution of water to all the areas of Earth’s.
  • It recharges the underground water.
  • It continues the supply of fresh water to the river.

FORMATION OF WATER CYCLE

The following are the steps in which water is formed. The water cycle consists of three major processes which are:

  • Evaporation of water from the water body,
  • Condensation in form of clouds and;
  • Precipitation in the form of rain.

EVAPORATION OF WATER

Evaporation is the change of water from a liquid to a gas. Water is continuously evaporating from the surface of the Earth.

Condensation of water

Condensation is the process where water in the form of gas returns back to liquid after meeting a cool surface.

Precipitation of water

Precipitation is water released from clouds in the form of rain.

RAIN FORMATION

HOW DOES RAIN FORM?

Rain water is the combination of little water falling on the earth. It can also be defined as water pouring from the sky to the ground. Without water and rain, we would not survive so we can say rain also plays an important role in our day to day life.

IMPORTANCE OF RAIN

  • Rain plays a major role in the growing of grass and crops.
  • Rain is essential for life.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WATER CYCLE AND RAIN FORMATION

WATER CYCLE RAIN FORMATION
It is a continuous movement of water above and below the surface of the Earth. Rain is droplets of water that falls from the cloud.
When it condenses, it releases energy and warms the environment. Rain is formed when the water droplets get too large and heavy in the cloud.

EVALUATION

Give 5 characteristics of water.

List 3 importance of rain

SUMMARY

The water cycle describes how water evaporates from the surface of the earth, rises into the atmosphere, cools and condenses into rain or snow in clouds, and falls again to the surface as precipitation.

ASSIGNMENT

List 5 uses of water

Mention 5 sources of water
