MODERN MARRIAGE
Marriage pattern throughout the world vary according to customs, tradition, religion and economic factor. Most people marry according to their religion or the court of law. These types of marriages are referred to as modern marriages.
Christian Marriage
The Christian marriage takes place in a church. It is conducted by a Pastor or Reverend Father. Marriage is guided by the Holy Bible. It allows for one woman, one husband. Bride wears a white gown with a veil. There is usually a bridal train with flower girls, maid of honour and ring bearers. The bride and groom exchange vows and rings. Guests are often entertained with wine, foods and drinks after the church service.
Muslim Marriage
The marriage is conducted by an Imam. It is according to Islamic laws. A Nikai (wedding prayer) binds the bride and groom. The wedding can take place in a mosque, house or any other venue. The bride’s face is covered with a veil. A dowry is paid to the bride. The man is allowed to marry more than one wife. Guests are entertained with foods and drinks to celebrate the marriage.
Court Marriage or Marriage by Ordinance
Marriage is conducted by an official appointed by the government which may be the Court Registrar. It takes place in the marriage registry. It must be witnessed by at least two people. Wedding vows are made. Ring can be exchanged. Guest are entertained with foods and drinks to celebrate the marriage at the reception.
