TOPIC: The reward for working for God
TEXT: Hebrews 6:10
God is our creator and our Lord. The Bible says we were conceived in sin. In Romans 3:23,the Bible says “ for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” However, He redeemed us back to Himself by giving us His only son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.
Having being saved, we must also reach out to the lost souls. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 28: 19-20, “Go ye therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you, and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
The disciples obeyed as the Lord as commanded them and they did great exploits for the Lord. Winning souls to God’s kingdom. For their obedience, they were rewarded. The Holy Spirit guided their steps and taught them all things.
A case of punishment was Jonah whom God sent to Nineveh but went to Tarshish. Jonah 1:2, “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because it’s wickedness has come to me.” He was punished for His disobedience.
When we work for God, we will definitely get our rewards. Some of the work we can do for God includes: Evangelism, cleaning the church, singing, ushering, giving etc.
Why we should live an upright life
A true child of God always desires to please God. In case of failure, such child of God still acknowledges his sin and press for what pleases God.
Proverbs 11:3 tells us that the integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them.
Many people say it is impossible to live an upright life, this is not true, it is very possible. When we put our hope in Christ we can live an upright life. The Holy Spirit will lead and teach us through all truth, making us upright all the way.
Christians should live an upright life because God has given us the go ahead in His word. We listen and study His word daily, which makes us stronger. Everything we do should demonstrate our love for Him.
Moral lesson
- The closer we are to God, the more upright we become.
- When we work for God, He makes our own secular work easy.
- It is good to work for God, preaching, ushering etc.
