Food is a substance, either liquid or solid that gives the essential nutrients to the body. Food is any edible substance either liquid or solid which when eaten is used by the body to maintain life. It is not everything that goes to the mouth that is edible. We need to eat good food to stay healthy.
Food is the substance taken into the body to remain healthy and alive. E.g. rice, beans, and oranges
Kinds of food:
- Rice
- Pawpaw
- Plantain
- Garri
- beans
- vegetable oil
- salt
- water
- meat
- Egg etc.
Types of Foodstuffs
ROOTS: yam, cassava, potatoes
FRUITS: orange, pineapple, banana
VEGETABLES: water leaf, spinach; ugwu, ewedu
ANIMALS FOOD: meat, chicken, eggs, milk
NUTS: ground nut, coconut
Uses of Food Stuffs in Food Preparation
FOODSTUFF FOOD PRODUCED
Cocoa beverages like milo, ovaltine
Yam yam flour
Milk ice cream, yogurt
Tomatoes tin tomatoes
Fish sardine
Meat corned beef, bacon
Maize or corn custard, corn flour
Cassava garri, cassava flour
Palm fruit palm oil, palm kernel oil
