TOPIC: DRUG ABUSE 1

Meaning of Drug: Drug is any substance that is used to cure or prevent illness so as to be healthy. The result of using a drug could be positive or negative depending on how, when and why it is taken.

 

Forms of Drug Abuse

There are three forms of drug abuse:

1. Drug abuse is the illegal use of drugs without a doctor’s prescription.
2. Drug abuse is the excessive use of prescribed drugs.
3. Drug abuse is the use of hard drugs e.g. cocaine, heroin, Indian hemp or marijuana etc.

 

EVALUATION QUESTIONS

1. Define drug.
2. Identify the three forms of drug abuse.

 

 

Effects of Drug Abuse on the Individual

1. It makes an individual to be addicted.
2. It leads to cancer of the lungs.
3. It destroys the liver and kidneys of the individual.
4. The individual experiences physical, emotional psychological and mental problems.
5. Hard drugs make individuals engage in crimes.
6. It can lead to the untimely death of the individual.
