In today’s English class, we will be learning about Features of Formal Letter

Features of Formal Letters

In our last class, we learned about informal letters. Can you remember how we described what an informal letter is?

We said informal letters are personal letters that are written to let your friends or family know about what is going on in your life and to pass your regards.

However, for formal letters, we consider it to be very official, serious and written for official purposes only.

Formal letters are not written to families and friends because they usually contain serious and important information. Such as an application for a job, a letter to the Head of a company, school, and so on.

The features of a formal letter are quite different from that of an informal letter. The following are the features of a formal letter:

Sender’s address

Date

Name / Designation of Addressee

Address of the Addressee

Salutation

Subject

Body – Introduction, Content, Conclusion

Complimentary Close

Signature / Name of the Sender

Designation of the Sender

Let’s take a look at an example of a formal letter.
