In today’s English class, we will be learning about Concluding Paragraph
In our first lesson for the week, we learned about ‘introductory paragraphs.’ And under this topic we wrote a short essay on the role of religion. In this class, we will take a look at the essay once again before defining what a concluding paragraph is.
As children, you each represent different families. Just as you have different names and parents, and other things that you do in your house which other people do not do, the same applies to religion.
Religion is something you believe in, which guides how you live your life. It is a practice you devote yourself to and respect a lot.
In Nigeria, for instance, there are two major religions: Christianity and Islam.
Other religions are grouped into Traditional worship.
It is also important to note that there are people who do not practice any religion but they do respect other people’s religion.
However, it is important to know why religion exists and how they play a major part in our societies.
In the essay above, we have four paragraphs – the introduction – the body – the conclusion, also referred to as the concluding paragraph.
Come with me, as we learned what a concluding paragraph is.
A concluding paragraph is the last paragraph in an essay which summarizes the essay, presents the main idea of the essay, or gives an overall solution to a problem or argument given in the essay.
It is important to note that the purpose of a concluding paragraph is to form the lasting impression of the reader by summarizing the points made in the essay in a clear, concise paragraph. It concludes the essay by emphasizing the main ideas by using simple language.
You don’t want people reading your essay and forgetting the important details you highlighted.
Now, we have come to the end of today’s class, I hope you now understand that concluding paragraphs mainly summarizes the essay, presents the main idea of the essay, or gives an overall solution to a problem or argument given in the essay.
Evaluation
Replace the concluding paragraph explained in today’s class with two sentences using your own words.
Reading Assignment
Differentiate between introductory paragraph and concluding paragraph using the given topic: role of religion.
Weekend Assignment
Write an essay on the importance of good works.
