Welcome to today’s class!!
We are excited to have you join our class!!
In today’s English class, we will be learning about Giving Formal Speech
Giving Formal Speech
Can you remember the last time the president of your country addressed everyone? How was it? You can discuss this with your classmates.
People love to give speeches, especially memorable ones. Giving memorable speeches is one of the ways through which people easily remember you. Today, we hear people quoting words from speeches given by Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., Barack Obama, Mother Teresa, Mark Zuckerberg, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and many others.
A formal speech is very correct and serious rather than relaxed and friendly, and is used mostly to address situations. You can also find formal speeches amongst officials in a working environment.
In cases where a formal speech is written, the writer tends to use abbreviations only after first spelling out what they stand for. And where exclamations are fine in informal settings, they are frowned upon for formal writing. The same goes for the first and second person—notably, pronouns like “I” and “you.”
