In today’s English class, we will be learning about Preposition And Usage

Relating a preposition to our everyday life is important, because the more you remember that a family is made up of a father, mother and children, it will be easy for you to understand what a preposition is.

Preposition 

Preposition helps in showing us the relationship between other words in a sentence. Like families, preposition displays the link between nouns in a sentence. Other times, prepositions help in telling you where something is or when something happened. 

Prepositions can be used under different situations, and these are referred to as Usage of Preposition.

First, a preposition can be used in Direction

Some examples of this include:

  • Look to the East  and you will see a miracle
  • Come to the class, your book has been found. 

The prepositions in those examples are to. 

Secondly, we have Preposition of Time. Examples of this include:

since in preposition

  • We have been working since yesterday
  • He has been sleeping since morning

The prepositions in those examples are since. 

Another Preposition Usage is Preposition of Location. Examples of this include:

at in preposition

  • We watched a movie at the cinemas
  • Sandra ate chicken at the mall

The prepositions in the examples are at.

The fourth preposition usage is Preposition of Space. This type of preposition shows us where a thing is. Examples are:

  • The boy hid under the table
  • We saw our books under the teacher’s desk. 

The prepositions in the examples are under.

In summary, we know that in addition to preposition acting like a family member showing a relationship between people, it can also act like a gossiper that tells you where to look when searching for something.
